A bushfire which ravaged Harcourt and surrounding areas earlier this month is not being treated as suspicious.
Police confirmed the finding in a Facebook post shared to their Bendigo and Goldfields Eyewatch pages on Wednesday afternoon.
The blaze sparked at Ravenswood South on January 9th, but an “extensive investigation” could only be launched once the area had been declared safe by authorities.
“Multiple people were spoken to by police as part of the investigation, however, there were no arrests,” the post reads.
“Detectives, with the assistance of an Arson Chemist and CFA Fire Investigator, determined that the fire was not suspicious.
“The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.”
Over 50 buildings were destroyed and 4500 hectares burnt in the disaster, which also impacted radio and TV transmission infrastructure at Mount Alexander.
Most radio stations and several TV channels have now returned to the airwaves on a reduced signal while a full restoration of the transmission site continues.
