Huntly could be home to another primary school by as early as Term One next year.

A sod-turning ceremony was held at the site on Tuesday, April 21st.

Executive director of Catholic Education Sandhurst, Kate Fogarty said the project reflects a “continued investment in the future of Catholic education”.

“As communities continue to grow, so too must our capacity to respond with high-quality, faith-centred education,” Ms Fogerty said in a statement.

“This new school is an important response to that growth and a sign of our confidence in the future of the Huntly region.”

In the same statement, Catholic Education Sandhurst said the school was “set to open in January 2027”.

The full cost of the project is not known, but $6 million was contributed by the Commonwealth.

Federal Member for Bendigo, Lisa Chesters said investment in education infrastructure was critical to supporting rapidly-expanding communities like Huntly.

“Our Government is proud to be working with partners such as Catholic Education Sandhurst to ensure local families have access to the quality school facilities they need now and into the future,” Ms Chesters said.

Once opened, St Thomas Aquinas Primary School will initially be teaching students from Foundation (or Prep) to Grade 2, before accepting pupils in other year-levels.

An on-site kindergarten is also expected to be part of the facility.
