We now know when the next poll takes place in Greater Bendigo.
Another byelection is being run for Lockwood Ward, with the votes to be counted in October.
The poll will be conducted via postal vote, with ballot packs distributed from September 14th to 17th.
Once received, ratepayers will need to fill-out their ballots and return them by no later than 6pm on Friday, October 2nd.
Counting will be overseen by the Victorian Electoral Commission and the results of the vote published on October 23rd.
Confirmation of the dates follows the sad news of sitting City councillor Donna Nicholas passing away last week, who had only been elected as a representative less than three months prior.
She herself was elevated to the role of Lockwood Ward’s representative in a byelection, which came about due to the resignation of John McIlrath in November 2025.
Mr McIlrath stated at the time he could no longer fulfil his role as a councillor due to his commitments running his self-owned business.
But he briefly returned to council in February as a private citizen, using Public Question Time to ask what level of involvement the CFMEU “or any other union” would have on the Bendigo Art Gallery redevelopment, and what the City was doing to ensure corruption wouldn’t occur.
Lockwood Ward takes in part of suburban Bendigo, including Maiden Gully, Long Gully and West Bendigo, as well as the outlying township of Marong, with approximately 10,500 registered voters.
The state’s Electoral Commissioner, Sven Bluemmel is encouraging all residents of Greater Bendigo to have their say by making sure their enrolment details are up to date.
“You must be correctly enrolled by the close of roll, which is 4 pm on Wednesday 22 July,” Mr Bluemmel said in a statement.
“As this is a postal election, it’s important to check your address details are correct – this includes any alternative postal address.
“If you’re an Australian citizen living in Lockwood Ward and you’ve recently turned 18 or moved, you can enrol or update your details online at vec.vic.gov.au/enrolment”
