Visitors to Bendigo’s Military Museum now have another way to learning about our wartime past.

The interactive audio experience, known as Storyscape, was launched at the venue on Friday, June 26th.

It aims to further immerse attendees in the Museum’s static displays, pictures and artefacts through aural stories and sound effects, which are delivered through headphones connected to a portable device.

Chatting on the Wake Up Call with Robbo prior to the launch, Bendigo RSL sub-branch president Glenn Ludemann said the new addition brings to life the region’s military history.

“It’s about accessibility too… People learn and connect with history in different ways, and an audio-sensory type of experience allows the visitor to further immerse themselves,” he told Robbo.

“Behind every item there’s a backstory, and a lot of sacrifice behind each backstory in this case, so it brings a lot of that to currency and certain generations can further involve themselves in the learning experience.”

Developed with the input of local veterans, the initiative was made possible through $136,340 in federal government funding, delivered through the Saluting Their Service Commemorative Grants program.

Member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters – who attended the launch – said Storyscape was among the projects helping to honour the service and sacrifice of our veterans nationwide.

“This project will preserve stories of the brave local men and women who have fought to protect our way of life – I’m proud to see their legacy preserved so that future generations can also pay their respects,” the MP said.
