Bendigo: Victoria’s meth trafficking capital

Bendigo is officially Victoria’s worst municipality when it comes to trafficking methamphetamine, according to new data from the state’s Crime Statistics Agency.

Figures released on Thursday reveal there were 267 arrests for trafficking and dealing meth across Bendigo in the last financial year.

Of those, 158 were trafficking – 58 per cent higher than the City of Melbourne, which recorded 98 trafficking arrests.

No other local Victorian LGA had more meth-related arrests.

Bendigo also recorded 138 arrests for trafficking and dealing in cannabis over the same period.

The data also reveals there were 10 arrests related to GHB and another ten for the drug ecstacy, and only two for trafficking cocaine.

Nine people were taken into custody on charges related to prescription drugs.
