Boy struck by car outside Bendigo school, hospitalised

A child has been taken to hospital following a collision near Kangaroo Flat Primary School.

Paramedics and police responded to the incident, which happened along Olympic Parade around 3.05pm on Friday, February 13th.

When asked for further information, a Victoria Police spokesperson told our newsroom that the 8-year-old boy was using a signed pedestrian crossing when he was struck by a Ford Mondeo.

“The driver of the vehicle, a 52-year-old Kangaroo Flat man, stopped at the scene where he allegedly returned a positive preliminary oral fluid test,” the spokesperson said.

“It is alleged the suspended driver refused to accompany police for an evidentiary test.

“He is expected to be charged on summons with several traffic offences.”

Meantime, a spokesperson for Ambulance Victoria confirmed that Advanced Life Support paramedics assessed and treated one patient at the scene.

“A school aged child was transported by road ambulance to Bendigo Health with upper body injuries in a stable condition,” they said.
