In an effort to crackdown on organised crime, the Victorian government has reclassified machetes under new laws.
The Firearms and Control of Weapons (Machetes) Amendment Bill 2024 will amend existing laws to make it easier for police to serve a firearm prohibition order (FPO).
This follows a local 17-year-old being accused of an alleged Bendigo home invasion with a machete.

Under this new Bill, machetes will be classified as a controlled weapon, with a fine of more than $23,000 or a jail term of one year for possession.
