At last night’s Greater Bendigo council meeting, a new Hargreaves Mall action plan was voted in.
Three years of landscaping and amenity work to improve its functionality and appearance with almost a dozen shops currently empty in the Mall. The plan will also target areas of concern such as high vacancy rates, cleanliness, and anti-social behavior.
Counciller Jen Alden, who voted in favour of the plan, said the “real issue” was the Mitchell Street end of the mall near the bus stop.
Acting CEO of the City of Greater Bendigo, Brian Westley, says the council was considering opening the Mall to traffic as part of the action plan, following other Victorian Regional Council’s who have recently made the change.
