A growing chorus of voices have blasted changes to the number of subsidised psychology sessions by the federal government.

From January 1, medicare-subsidised sessions have dropped from 20 to 10.
Central Victorian Mallee MP and shadow minister for regional health Dr Anne Webster said given the impacts of the pandemic, on-going disaster recovery and cost-of-living pressures, now is not the time to cut such a program.

“Serious mental health issues are often at their highest a few years after a crisis, pandemic or
natural disaster, which is why vulnerable Australians need to have continued access to the
psychology sessions they need,” she said.
Both the Institute of Clinical Psychologists and Australian Clinical Psychology Association have called on the government to reverse its decision.
