A new partnership has allowed a tourist drawcard and veterans’ memorial on Pall Mall to welcome visitors seven days a week.
The change in the Bendigo Military Museum’s opening hours was confirmed in a joint statement released by the Bendigo District RSL Sub-Branch, and Bendigo Heritage on Monday, February 9th.
Prior to this, the public could only enter the building on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
As part of their arrangement, Bendigo Heritage – which operates two other tourist attractions in the city, Central Deborah Gold Mine and Bendigo Tramways – will manage visitor servicing.
Acting CEO of the organisation, Tynille Thurlow said the partnership “strengthens Bendigo’s reputation as a destination with quality cultural experiences, encouraging off-peak visitation and extending visitor length of stay to the region.”
The RSL will continue to play a role though, overseeing the museum’s collections, exhibition spaces, and the coordination of commemorative events such as Remembrance Day and ANZAC Day services.
General Manager of the Bendigo District sub-branch, Martin Beekes has also expressed his support for the arrangement.
“This partnership will make the museum more accessible to visitors and ensures there is no change to the museum’s mission or its ongoing commitment to honouring service, sacrifice, and military heritage,” Mr Beekes said.
The Bendigo Military Museum is open daily from 10am to 4pm, and currently exhibiting the photographic display Nasho ’57: 98 Days at Pucka until July 26th.
More information about the Museum can be found on the Bendigo District RSL’s website.
