Another death from Murray Valley encephalitis has health authorities scrambling to test more people in central and northern Victoria.
Deputy chief health officer, associate professor, Deb Friedman said it’s important residents take precautions against mosquitos bites.
“About one in every 800 people who are infected get this type of devastating encephalitis that can be fatal”.
The heath department knows it has had three confirmed human cases that have been all died.
More blood sample testing will get underway for authorities to understand the extent of infections across our region.
Meanwhile, regional schools are being urged to hire pest controllers to kill mosquitoes.
The Education Department has offered funding to hundreds of schools, camp providers and daycare centres to cover the cost of spraying.
