Police Numbers Fall Across Central Victoria

Local Police Stations in Castlemaine, Maryborough, and Kyneton are reducing their opening hours, with some stations adopting a single-officer response.

A study by Swinburne University has revealed that a staggering 67% of officers feel
burnt out, and workload pressures with stress levels reaching unprecedented heights.

The latest Victoria Police annual report confirms that there are 319 fewer police officers compared to last year, with over 800 general Victoria Police vacancies currently. The report also states there has been an annual exodus of 500 officers from the force and more than 800 police officers off duty on WorkCover.

Nationals Member for Northern Victoria, Gaelle Broad, says she believes this will make it hard for local police to service the community.
