Regionally-hosted Games Blamed for Cost Blow-out

An inquiry into the scrapping of the 2026 Commonwealth Games has been told the cost of staging the event across five regional venues played a big role in the cost blow-out.

The event was due to be staged across Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, Shepparton, and Morwell before the state government pulled the pin.

Chair Peggy O’Neale told the parliamentary hearing the short lead-in time was also a problem.
