Several of the region’s schools will be receiving money to help support families working extended hours.
The state government has confirmed that 102 schools across Victoria are receiving a share in grant funding, both to help run their out-of-school-hours care (OSHC) programs and reduce the economic impact on households.
Education Minister and Deputy Premier, Gabrielle Williams says that money will assist in covering the costs of before- and after-school initiatives.
“We know how important that is for working families – proving an opportunity for parents to get back to work, to take on extra shifts, or to take on extra study if that’s what they want to do,” Ms Williams says.
“This is about backing regional families, backing working families and doing what we can to make life that little bit easier.”
According to the government, these grants are part of a $14.7 million investment made in 2024 “to back OSHC at schools”.
The initiative targets schools with less than 200 students, and those in rural and regional areas.
Locally, Newstead Primary School was the biggest winner, earning the maximum individual funding amount of $40 thousand.
Other schools in Central Victoria set to benefit include:
- Axedale Primary, Goornong Primary, Harcourt Valley Primary, Taradale Primary, Inglewood Primary and Tarnagulla Primary Schools, each receiving $30k;
- Dunolly Primary, Winters Flat Primary and Trentham District Primary Schools, each getting $25k, and;
- Talbot Primary School with $5k.
