The state government has failed to meet its own deadline for the delivery of social housing in the Macedon Ranges as part of the Big Housing Build, according to Northern Victorian MP Wendy Lovell.

Liberal Member Wendy Lovell spoke in parliament recently to draw attention to the fact that the state Labor government’s Big Housing Build social housing program has only built six homes in Macedon Ranges in the last four years.

Labor promised to invest a minimum of $30 million to build social housing in Macedon Ranges in 2020, as part of a four-year roll-out. However, the project website reveals that only $12.5 million has been allocated to four social housing projects that are supposed to deliver 25 homes.

This year, the project is due to be complete, but only six homes have been built. While the government claims there are 19 homes underway, Lovell says there are reports that the group of 12 homes in Lancefield has not even commenced.

Lovell says completing just six homes in four years is a disgraceful effort.

“Many of my constituents in Macedon Ranges are desperate for housing, but this Labor government has let them down again with another broken promise,” Lovell says.

Lovell continues to bring the issue up in parliament.

“The Minister must provide clarity on when the full investment will be made, and when all
the promised housing will be completed and available for people who need it,” Lovell says.
