A 62-year-old Bendigo man has made it his mission to rescue books that would otherwise be destroyed or sent to the tip.

When the Pandemic hit, Michael Reid heard a bookshop in Castlemaine was closing down and all the books would end up at tip – he couldn’t let that happen. That day he saved 10 ute loads worth of books from the shop and began his collection of over 200,000 stories.

He has collected books across Victoria, passing them on as gifts, or selling them for one dollar each at his Bendigo home.
