If you notice an odour or funny taste in your tank water Environmental Health Officer, Paul Endres, warns that you should check the tank hasn’t been contaminated by recent bushfires.
Endres says water tanks can become contaminated and be a health risk after bushfires.
He says if your tank is contaminated it needs to be emptied, hosed out, and sanitised before it’s safe to use.
