GWS Giants have made a high-profile addition to their board of directors with triple premiership winner Jimmy Bartel.joining the Sydney AFL club.
Bartel was in the triumphant Geelong teams of 2007, 2009 and 2011 and played 305 games in a decorated 15-season career with the Cats.
He won the Brownlow Medal in 2007 and All-Australian honours in that year and in 2008 and was also the Norm Smith Medallist in the 2011 grand final.
Bartel, who turned 35 earlier this month, has maintained a high profile since retiring from the AFL at the end of the 2016 season.
He has a number of media and business interests, with GWS delighted he will bring his football knowledge and business acumen to the club’s board.
Giants’ chairman Tony Shepherd described Bartel’s decision to join the board as a significant fillip for the club.
“Jimmy is regarded as one of the most well-rounded people in the football community and we’re delighted to have him join our board,” Shepherd said.
“His knowledge of the AFL industry is second to none and his work in the community and in business sees him well positioned to contribute to the club in a range of ways.”
