A new initiative's being rolled out across Maryborough to attract skilled migrants to fill job vacancies.
Chief executive of Central Goldfields shire Lucy Roffey told Robbo on The Wake Up Call earlier in the week that they're consulting with businesses and organisations on how best to accommodate the potential increase in population.
She said one of the challenges people face when moving to regional or rural areas is housing.
"We're going to be looking at the housing issue because we know that we have a housing shortage anyway," Roffey said.
In a statement, the Shire said it was an "ambitious initiative but an exciting opportunity to create a long-term plan".
Alongside this, a documentary film crew will follow the project over a three-month period.
