Cause of 2016 Bridgewater bushfire revealed

A fallen tree has been confirmed as the culprit of a 100 hectare bushfire in Bridgewater in December 2016.
According to Energy Safe Victoria's 2017 Safety Performance Report on Victorian Electricity Networks the Christmas Eve (December 24) blaze at Hendry's Lane was started when a tree fell onto high voltage power lines.
An inspection of the site was carried out ESV following the fire with Powercor also investigating, finding the tree was likely outside of the required electric line clearance space at the time it fell, and other contributing factors including the weather and the tree's condition also playing a part in causing the fire.
