Work will start this week to upgrade the Mt Tarrengower Lookout Tower.
The works will be carried out by DELWP to ensure the fire tower observer cabin meets health and safety standards, as well as improving the safety of the lookout for visitors.
The old cabin on top of the tower will be removed and replaced with a new one that meets current occupational health and safety requirements to improve the working conditions for the fire tower observer, and the old lead-based paint will be removed, before structural repairs are undertaken and will be repainted.
The tower will be closed to visitors throughout the upgrade and Mt Tarrengower Road will be also close for a few days when are cranes are working.
It is part of a network of fire towers that protects the community by providing early detection of bushfires, communications links and intelligence gathering of fire behaviour, with the works due to be completed before the 2018/19 fire season.
