Man to be sentenced today

A man who bashed a teenage boy to death before dumping his body in an old mineshaft is due to be sentenced today (August 10).

28-year-old Thomas Kelson pleaded guilty in June to murdering Cayleb Hough whose body was found in the Lerderderg State Park near Bacchus Marsh in March 2016.

The 17-year-old was bashed for hours at a Collingwood house, with Kelson believing the victim had harmed his father before bundling the injured teenager into his car and driving to an abandoned mineshaft around 60km away.

Along the way, Kelson stopped to fatally strike Cayleb with knuckle dusters.
