The Bendigo Writers Festival has attracted its biggest audience to date.
The event, now in its 8th year, attracted over 5,700 people at the weekend, and had a 30 per cent increase in box office sales.
Nearly two thirds of those who attended the festival were from Bendigo, according to David Lloyd, manager of Capital Venues and Events.
"The breakdown of our figures has also revealed that 60 per cent of those who attended were from the Greater Bendigo community. It’s a great endorsement to see such strong local support and commitment for the event," said Mr Lloyd.
“Over a third came from regional Victorian and Melbourne combined and five per cent from interstate and overseas. Most opted for a three-day pass so they could stay in the city and make the most of the impressive program of events."
“We’ve also adapted to what audiences wanted based on feedback from previous years and now offer better accessibility to move between the venues, which I believe has had a positive effect on visitor numbers.”
The Bendigo Writers Festival held over 100 events over the weekend, and attracted 150 speakers from around Australia and the world.
