Residents in the Macedon Ranges shire are being urged to keep glass out of their recycling bins.
The Macedon Ranges Shire Council and its waste contractor, Four Seasons Waste, have found a new recycling processor in the wake of SKM's closure, but they won't take recycling that contains glass.
Small pieces of glass can become embedded in cardboard, paper and other items in recycling bins, meaning the waste won't be accepted by the provider.
Lancefield residents who are taking part in the recycling trial of 'glass only' bins are asked to continue sorting their recycling as normal.
Locals can take their glass to the council's transfer stations in Romsey, Woodend and Kyneton free of charge for the time being, while council explores the new option to stop recyclables going to landfill.
