Locals in the Macedon Ranges are being reminded to lock their vehicles following an increase in thefts from cars in the region.

Police say the majority of thefts have come from unlocked cars, and note that tradespeople who leave their tools in their vehicles are more likely to be targeted by thieves.

Despite ongoing reminders to lock houses and vehicles, Macedon Ranges Police say the message doesn't seem to be cutting through following the spike in thefts.

To reduce the number of thefts in the region, locals are encouraged to take theri valuables with them from their cars, and to follow the steps of look, lock, and leave.
