Huntly residents might foot the bull for infrastructure

A controversial plan to slug landowners and developers in Huntly with an infrastructure levy has progressed after last night's council meeting.

The City of Greater Bendigo met last night and considered a plan that would mean land owners or developers in the area east of the Midland Highway would have pay the Development Contributions Plan an amount depending on how much land they own.

The funds raised from the DCP would help pay for around 24 million dollars worth of new infrastructure including roads, better intersections and play spaces.

Seven out of eight councillors supported the plan while council now needs the planning minister to amend its planning scheme before there's any further progress.
