Hundreds of residents across Bendigo are expected to demand greater action on climate change today.

Across the country more than 100 student-led strikes are set to take place to challenge local, state and federal governments to do more to stop the rapidly changing environment.

In Bendigo, some workplaces will be shutting down in time for the protest at 2pm with unionists and union supporters marching to the Library Gardens at 1:50pm.

“We are striking from school to tell our politicians to take our futures seriously and treat climate change for what it is - a crisis. Once our governments are doing what they should do on climate action we will happily go back and focus on school,” said Anita Pollard of the student group organising the strike.

Some are also heading to the Melbourne protest, including Mount Alexander Shire Mayor Bronwen Machin.

Locally, the strike gets underway outside of the Bendigo Library at 2pm.
