With bushfire season around the corner, Powercor's revealed its plans to replace powerlines with underground cables.
The electricity company is currently looking at areas in Raywood and Lockwood, to replace an estimated 31 kilometres of powerlines sometime next year.
The proposal would see 24km of lines buried near Raywood, with a further 7km to go underground at Lockwood.
The changes are in line with a scheme put into place following the devastating Black Saturday bushfires in 2009.
Powercor has recently been out and about testing the local grid to check it is adequately prepared in the event of a bushfire locally, after having installed new technology that will reduce power to lines as soon as a fault is detected.
