Court case continues into death in custody

Victoria Police insist individual officers should not be criminally investigated over the death in custody of Yorta Yorta woman Tanya Day who hit her head in a Castlemaine police cell two years ago and died as a result a fortnight later.

The family of the 55 year old grandmother say the investigation is necessary to prevent other similar deaths, they also want the coroner to acknowledge systemic racism and unconscious bias were central to Ms Day being ignored and later dying.
