Councils around the state have been handed a report card for their performance over the last 12 months.
In Bendigo though, one figure in particular has raised more than a few eyebrows when it comes to the cost of governance.
The cost breakdown per councillor in town is close to $12,000 higher than the stage average, coming in at just over $60,000, up some 10 per cent on last year's figures.
The figures were released by the state government yesterday, and is noticably higher than other areas nearby, with the cost of governance in Ballarat coming in at $47,000, and $52,000 in Wodonga.
In the report, the City of Greater Bendigo says its direct costs have increased due to higher costs the council faces overall, including advertising, subscriptions, and training.
