Singer, songwriter and musician Daryl Hall is 73 on the 11th of October.
Born in Philadelphia, Daryl Hohl's (Yes, his real name is Hohl) father was a professional singer and mother a vocal coach.
John started singing at school and made recordings which lead to him joining a vocal group while at college.
He met fellow uni student John Oates at a dance and they started playing together.
Their third single, She's Gone, made Number 60 on the charts in '73 but the duo had the wait three years for any further chart action.
When success came in the mid 70's, it came big.
Sara Smile went top 5 in '76 and She's Gone was re-released and went Top 10.
The following year, Rich Girl reached Number One and the duo became very rich in the 80's.
They had massive hits including Out Of Touch, You Make My Dreams, Kiss On My List, Private Eyes, I Can't Go For That and Maneater.
In '85 they performed at Live Aid in Philadelphia and were part of the USA for Africa charity single We Are The World.
Hall & Oates have released eighteen studio albums, the most recent one came out in 2016 and Daryl Hall has had a further seven solo records.
In 2014 Daryl Hall & John Oates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
