Thinking About Whitney

Singer and sometimes actress Whitney Houston died on the 11th of February 2012 aged 48.


Growing up Whitney was surrounded by music royality with her mum Cissy a gospel singer, Dionne Warwick being her first cousin, her godmother was 60's singer Darlene Love and Aretha Franklin was her honourary aunt.

At 11 she was singing in a gospel choir and she also learnt to play piano.

In the early 80's Whitney was modelling in magazines and in tv commercials.

Whitney was discovered musically while performing on stage with her mother and offered a recording contract.

Her first release was a duet with Teddy Pendergrass called Hold Me and it was a hit and it would later appear on her debut album.

The self titled album was released on Valentine's Day in 1985 and became a global smash.

The album topped the charts and contained the hits How Will I Know, Saving All My Love For You and Greatest Love Of All.

Her follow up album simply called Whitney was another hit with chart songs I Wanna Dance With Somebody, So Emotional and Didn't We Almost Have It All.

In 92 she married fellow singer Bobby Brown after dating for three years and the following year she have birth to a daughter Bobbi Kristina.

In 93 she starred opposite Kevin Costner in the hit movie The Bodyguard.

Her cover of the Dolly Parton song I Will Always Love You became her biggest hit and one of the highest selling songs in pop music history.

In the 90's she also appeared in the movies Waiting To Exhale and The Preacher's Wife.

Musically she had further hits in 90's including I'm Every Woman, Step By Step and the duet with fellow pop diva Mariah Carey called When You Believe.

In the late 90's Whitney's behavour changed with cancelled shows and tv appearances.

In 2001 she appeared very gaunt but she denied drug use.

A couple of days before The Grammys in 2012 she make a guest appearance on stage a concert and her appearance was described as disheveled and her behavior eratic.

After failing to appear at a pre-grammys party, her body was found at a Beverly Hills hotel.

Whitney Houston is one the most successful singers of all time selling over 200 millions records and winning more than 400 awards.
