The Beach Boys released their classic album Pet Sounds on the 16th of May 1966.
The album was almost entirely written, produced and arranged by Brian Wilson after he has quit touring with the band.
Pet Sounds was inspired by The Beatles album Rubber Soul and influenced by producer Phil Spector's work.
The album contains such classics as Wouldn't It Be Nice, Sloop John B, God Only Knows and Caroline, No.
In 2003 Rolling Stone magazine ranked it as Number Two on it's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time behind The Beatles Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band.
