The Power of Huey Lewis

Singer, songwriter, musician and sometimes actor Huey Lewis is 69 on the 5th of July.

Before forming Huey Lewis & The News, he played in various bands including Slippery Elm, Clover and American Express.

The band's self titled debut album bombed but their second called Picture This cracked the Top 20 and the single Do You Believe In Love made the Top 10.

The band's third album Sports hit Number 1 as did the follow up Fore!

Heart & Soul, Hip To Be Square, Stuck With You, Perfect World and The Power of Love were all smash hits and the group could do no wrong.

The band only released two albums in the 90's and took time off from the road as Huey worked on other projects.

He made a cameo in the film Back To The Future playing a teacher and was Gwyneth's Paltrow's dad in the movie Duets.

They duetted on the song Cruisin', a cover of the Smokey Robinson track.

The most recent Huey Lewis & The News album came out in 2010 and the band has performed from time to time in recent years.

In April last year Huey revealed he was suffering hearing loss and the band cancelled their scheduled tour.
