Lead singer with U2, Bono, is 58 on the 10th of May.
Born Paul David Hewson in Dublin, he has been known as Bono since the late 70's.
In 1976 he responded to an advertisement on a notice board at Mount Temple Secondary School posted by fellow student Larry Mullen Jnr who was looking to start a rock band.
Adam Clayton and brothers Dave and Dik Evans also responded and the group Feedback was formed.
Dik Evans left and Dave Evans became The Edge and the four piece band became The Hype before settling on the name U2.
Bono writes most of the band's lyrics and he has tackled many political, social and religious topics.
