Countdown Takes Off!

The Aussie tv music show Countdown first aired on the 8th of November 1974.


Countdown was produced at the ABC's Ripponlea studios and aired on a Sunday night.

It showcased the best Australian music like Skyhooks, Men at Work, AC/DC, INXS and Little River Band.

The show also broke many interntional acts like Madonna, Abba, Blondie & Meatloaf.

Ian 'Molly' Meldrum was the talent co-ordinator and presented the music news segment Humdrum and became the face of the show.

Countdown ran for 14 years and 563 episodes were made ending in 1987.
