Two men have been charged after allegedly stolen items were located in a vehicle in suburban Bendigo.
Police believe the duo is responsible for the theft of a chainsaw, lamp and copper pipe from a hardware store on High Street on Sunday, February 1st.
They then fled the scene in a rental truck, which was tracked to a property on Mackenzie Street West, Golden Square.
Officers arrested the two male occupants at the scene.
Shortly after, police conducted a safety check on an item located in a bag, resulting in the Bomb Response Unit attending.
The area was cordoned off while the matter was investigated, with the item eventually deemed non-suspicious.
Following the incident, a 42-year-old Spring Gully man was charged with theft and possession of an explosive substance, while a 49-year-old Flora Hill man was charged with two counts of theft.
Both men have been bailed to appear before the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on June 1st.
