‘A Call Centre for the Lake’: Eppalock Holiday Park Under the Pump After Blue Green Algae Alert

Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) officials are asking the public to avoid contact with water in Lake Eppalock following high levels of blue-green algae detected at the popular swimming spot.

GMW water quality coordinator Bianca Atley said however Eppalock would not be closed to the public and visitors could still enjoy other activities.
 
“If people are near the water or on a boat, they should take care to avoid direct contact with the water,” she said.

Primary producers are also being advised they should find alternate water supplies for stock. 
 
Owner of Lake Eppalock Holiday Park Peter Rose told Gold that holidays makers need to weigh up the risks when visiting on hot days.
 
“We field a lot of phone calls in regards to the algae and it’s like we almost become a call centre for the lake,” he said.

“At the end of the day, we still go in the Lake, it doesn’t change what we do.” 
 
He said although they get a lot of cancellations, their waiting list is so big that they fill the campsites quite quickly.
