Victoria’s got a brand-new Premier after Jacinta Allan resigned from the role.
Ben Carroll now occupies the state’s top job, having been unanimously endorsed by Labor Party MPs as leader on Tuesday, July 28th.
He previously served as Deputy Premier under Ms Allan.
Speaking at a media conference, Mr Carroll said he would deliver “a new direction” for the government.
“Let me make one thing very clear: I am not Daniel Andrews; I am not Jacinta Allan,” he told the press pack.
“I will do things differently, because different times require a new approach.”
Pointedly, he promised his first act as Premier would be to call a Royal Commission into the construction sector – an issued which had hounded his predecessor.
Mr Carroll has been a member of state parliament since 2012, when he won a byelection for the district of Niddrie in Melbourne’s north-west.
He earned his first frontbench position as Minister for Industry and Employment in October 2017, before taking on a multitude of other portfolios prior to his elevation as Deputy Premier.
