‘Backyard Fest’ Hits Castlemaine’s Lot 19

A festival that started from humble beginnings in a Melbourne backyard will launch in Castlemaine this weekend. 
 
Aptly named Backyard Fest, event organiser Blake Van Leeuwen said the event has been growing and this should be the biggest year to date.

“After a few site changes, we’ve landed at Lot 19 in Castlemaine, which is going to be a cute, little venue for it,” he said. 
 
The festival brings a diverse range of music to the region. 
 
Headlined by Northern Rivers psychedelic rockband Babe Rainbow, the festival also features a nine-piece African ensemble, Ausecuma Beats, and House DJ, Andras.

Highly anticipated performance, Alice Skye, Van Leeuwen said, is a “last minute” out from the festival. 
 
He said they’re expecting about 500 people with some last minutes ticket sales.
