Bendigo’s McGauley-Bartlett Pinching Himself Over Young Australian of the Year Award

Bendigo’s Darcy McGauley-Bartlett said winning Victoria’s Young Australian of the Year was an incredibly overwhelming moment.

McGauley-Bartlett is an acting senior manager of Aboriginal Health within Justice Health.
The 24-year old Gunaikurnai man has told Gold that he was inspired to create change after growing up with significant personal disadvantage. 
“Some of my family members were in and out of the criminal justice system and I’d seen a number of failures,” he said. 
He said he wanted to create “equitable” health and education outcomes for his community. “
“My goal, over the long-term, is to really advocate to reduce incarceration rates and really improve on early intervention,”.
