Elite Bendigo distance runner Andy Buchanan will vye for the title of best men’s 10km cross country runner in the world this weekend.

The 31-year-old Bendigo product will compete in the elite senior 10km category of the 44th World Athletics Cross Country Championships at Mount Panaroma in Bathhurst.
Many years of hard work have led Buchanan to rise the ranks of Australia distance running field.

Remarkably he placed second seventh in last year’s Commonwealth Games marathon, which was a distance he had only completed once before.
The World Championships are being held in Australia for the first time, with all the action kicking off from 8am.
