High-levels of dangerous bacteria E.Coli has been found in floodwaters in across central and northern Victoria.

Initial tests by the Environmental Protection Authority show water in Rochester, Shepparton and Benalla to be the most contaminated in the state.
Most E-Coli is harmless, however, others can cause diarrhea, urinary tract infections, pneumonia and other illnesses.

It’s believed the bacteria has entered floodwater through residential septic tanks.
