Fresh Cash Splash for Bendigo Airport, But No Announcements on New Destinations

The terminal precinct upgrades to the Bendigo Airport are on track, according to local member Lisa Chesters.

In addition, a fresh cash splash of $100,000 dollars has recently been announced.
 
The Regional Airports Program funding has been allocated to build a fence to reduce wildlife hazards on the runway.

Federal member for Bendigo Lisa Chesters said she’s going to push airlines for more flights to and from new destinations to the airport, but it’s also a case of “supply and demand”.
 
“So, encouraging anybody who is thinking about a flight to consider flying in and out of Bendigo to support our local airport,” she said. 
 
Among the new routes being discussed are Bendigo to Adelaide, Mildura and Brisbane.

The local representative adding that catering for new airline Bonza would require “long-term planning”. 
 
“My understanding that the challenge with Bonza is they’re flying quite a big plane, a 737, and our airport runway isn’t long enough for those plane [as] it needs to be extended by about 400- metres.”
