Community groups have welcomed 14, $1,000 grants to local organisations who host free Christmas meals.

Mayor of the City of Greater Bendigo Andrea Metcalf said that the grants are council’s way of showing support to the incredible work of Greater Bendigo’s volunteer community.
“The easy part for us is to provide the money,” Cr Metcalf said.

“I’d hate to put a dollar value on what volunteering hours are worth to our city, but people just do it out of the goodness of their hearts.”
The grants program has been happening for a couple of years.
“Anyone can attend these free Community Christmas Meal events taking place in December and I hope lots of people will take up the chance to join in,” she added.
