Landfill kerbside bin collection in Greater Bendigo will be changing to a fortnightly service after council voted to implement proposed changes.

In addition, green organic waste bins will become a weekly service.
The policy will come into effect later this year.

It’s unclear at this stage if residents will be able to request larger bins.
Deputy mayor Jennifer Alden telling the council chamber that the criticism that young families with lots of nappies will struggle is fair enough, and something that the local government will need to evaluate.
“The amount of plastic nappies and their contents going to landfill is huge and such a change from 30 years ago,” Cr Alden said.

Councillor David Fagg was the only one opposed to the changes.
He said that the minor change will require “time and information” to make changes in their behaviour.

Adding that the report which councillors saw late last year had “little detail” about stakeholder engagement.
