One of the biggest cases of sheep theft in the state’s history has puzzled authorities.

Almost 700 ewes were reportedly stolen from a property in Logan, east of St Arnaud, between October last year and February 1st.
Police believe the criminal operation could have been very sophisticated and highly organised, including portable fences, four-decker trucks and sheep dogs.

There’s a chance the sheep could have been taken interstate.
Livestock theft hit a 10-year high in 2021, according to Crime Statistics Agency data.
