Local Member Joins Party In Opposing Voice to Parliament

Mallee MP Dr Anne Webster says she’s opposing the proposed Indigenous Voice to Parliament because it undermines the democratic principle of equality.

Dr Webster saying she does not believe the Voice would advance its primary aim of Closing the Gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians. 
 
“This risks taking representation away from the bush and back to the city where this advisory body
would likely be based and is not a progressive next step in the process of Reconciliation” she said.

It comes as her party, the Nationals, decided yesterday that they would oppose the constitutional body to Parliament.
