Bendigo miners cleaned up at the Victorian Mine Rescue Competition over the weekend.

One of the teams that performed well was CFA’s Oscar 1 unit, which won best captain, the underground search & rescue and the ropes rescue categories.
James Sorahan is the executive director of the Minerals Council’s Victoria branch.

He said the Oscar 1 team, which based in Long Gully, is the one of only two trained underground safety bodies in the country.
“Bendigo’s really lucky to have that,” he said.
He said the region has a “bit of speciality in underground mine rescue, which is good for the community to know.”
