Our feedback is being sought on buses in Bendigo.
The state government this week opened community consultation on a review into the city’s public bus network, which aims to identify travel patterns and potential areas for improvement.
“Regional communities deserve bus services that keep up with how they live, work and travel today,” Acting Minister for Public and Active Transport, Nick Staikos said in a statement.
“This is about listening to locals and planning a bus network that works better for Bendigo and surrounding communities.”
Premier and Member for Bendigo East, Jacinta Allan, and Bendigo West MP Maree Edwards are calling on the city’s residents to have their say.
“Whether it’s making it easier to get to work, getting the kids to school or getting to appointments, we want to hear how local buses can work better for Bendigo,” Ms Allan said.
“As Bendigo grows, our bus network needs to grow with it,” Ms Edwards added.
“This is your chance to help shape what’s next.”
The review follows the launch of a digital petition by residents of Marong, urging the state government to bring public transport to the fast-growing township on Bendigo’s outskirts.
Petition organiser Ajay Mishra has told our newsroom the review is a “most welcome step” and encouraged everybody to contribute, saying: “It is an opportunity for the community to make their voices heard.”
According to the government, the consultation process is focused on existing routes in Greater Bendigo, as well as parts of the region currently not serviced by public transport – including Marong.
You can offer your thoughts online until August 23rd, or through one of nine in-person pop-up sessions taking place over the next four weeks.
More information can be found on the review’s Engage Victoria webpage.
